Durham Women returned to winning ways with a comfortable triumph at Blackburn Rovers in the FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup.
Goals from Kathryn Hill, Becky Salicki and Beth Hepple sealed victory for the Wildcats – who were unlucky not to seal a greater margin of victory.
Having lost to the same opposition last weekend, Durham were keen to avoid a similar fate and began on the front foot.
Hill headed over from a corner before Nicki Gears slid narrowly wide at the far post after a teasing cross from Megan Bell.
But a breakthrough would eventually come on 23 minutes when Hill bundled home Hepple’s fine corner at the far post.
The lead, however, was short-lived with the hosts levelling moments later through Saffron Jordan – who reacted quickest got to turn the ball home after Megan Borthwick had parried Natasha Flint’s free-kick.
Hepple came close to restoring the lead before the interval – seeing a shot charged down – but the Wildcats were made to be patient by a resilient Blackburn defence.
After the break, Lisa Robertson saw a shot land just wide moments after Iris Achterhof was agonisingly close to prodding home a low cross.
The breakthrough would eventually come through the impressive Salicki though, who fired home at the back stick after Bell’s cross.
And the advantage was extended moments later when an effort from Bell was parried into the path of Hepple, who slotted home.
There were chances for a fourth, but three proved enough for the Wildcats – who remain top of Group A with a perfect record.
