Durham Women ended their season with three points at Watford.
In a game in which the Wildcats always looked like winning, Becky Salicki handed the visitors the lead with an early header.
Jordan Atkinson then doubled the advantage late on as Durham secured their best-ever FA WSL points tally.
Still in with a shot of third place, Lee Sanders’ side started on top with Nicki Gears seeing a cross hacked away before Emily Roberts sent a header wide of the far post.
But the Wildcats didn’t have to wait long to take the lead as Salicki rose highest to glance Beth Hepple’s corner past Fran Kitching after just eight minutes.
And the Wildcats continued to create with Kitching having to tip Zoe Ness’ curler wide before Rachel Lee fired just wide after a defensive mix-up.
Gears was then the next to be denied by the Watford stopper before a rare attack from the hosts saw Linda Akafukwah prod past Helen Alderson, only to see her shot come back off the post.
Durham then hit the post themselves – Kitching tipping Hepple’s header onto the woodwork – as the first half drew to a close.
It was more of the same after the break with Sarah Robson seeing a header hacked off the line before she then sent another effort narrowly over the bar.
Ness also sent a header wide as the Wildcats continued to see most of the ball without creating any clear-cut chances.
But a second did come with nine minutes remaining as Atkinson beat the offside trap and saw her shot tipped up and into the net by Kitching.
Lee saw a looping shot saved late on, as the Wildcats wrapped up another three points to secure that highest-ever points tally.
