Durham WIt was an unlucky afternoon for Durham as they suffered a 4-2 defeat against league leaders Charlton Athletic
The home side took the lead in the 26th minute through a Karin Muya strike from just outside the 18 yard box.
Durham drew level in the 39th minute, as Mariana Speckmaier managed to squeeze her effort past Sophie Whitehouse from close range.
The parity didn’t last for long, as Lucy Fitlzgerald put the home side ahead again in the 43rd minute.
Charlton added a third to their tally through Gillian Kenney who found herself in the right position in the six yard box, scoring from a follow up after a brilliant save from Cat Sheppard.
Durham started the second half the stronger team, as Lauren Briggs’ effort drew a good save from the Charlton goalkeeper in the 49th minute.
Beth Hepple almost pulled one back for Durham only for Whitehouse to keep her strike out from finding the bottom right corner.
Durham managed to pull one back in the 84th minute; Lucy Watson’s brilliant inswinging corner was helped in by Charlton’s defence, making it 3-2 with six minutes left to play.
Charlton sealed the result just four minutes later as Emma Bissel’s cross found Katie Lockwood for a tap-in, making it 4-2 for the home side.
Despite a spirited performance and a late push to get back into the contest, Durham were left defeated.
