The North East was painted in a blue hue as Durham secured the double over Newcastle United in a 3-1 win at Maiden Castle.
Aimee Claypole’s lightning brace cancelled out Newcastle’s sixth minute opener.
Beth Hepple’s 98th Durham goal gave the Blues a two-goal cushion before half time.
A minute’s applause was held for the late Poppy Atkinson, the young supporter who passed away earlier in the month.
Newcastle took an early lead through Emily Murphy’s looping header six minutes in, their first goal against Durham this season.
Durham nearly scored straight away as Lily Crosthwaite ran the length of the half but Claudia Moan ultimately stopped the forward.
The Magpies’ lead lasted only 12 minutes as Mollie Lambert’s 18th minute cross met Aimee Claypole to level the score and open her account for the Blues.
Durham won possession straight from the restart and Claypole slotted home a second in quick succession to give the Blues the lead, Lambert assisting again.
Beth Hepple’s strike on the half-hour mark added a third for Durham, her fifth goal of the season.
Claypole was close to bagging a hattrick after half time as her clever 55th-minute turning shot was just shy of the post.
Rylee Foster denied Beth Lumsden on the hour mark to keep Durham’s two-goal advantage.
Despite Magpies pressure, Durham held on through the ten minutes of additional time and secured the victory.
