Mollie Lambert scored the winner as Durham returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win against Southampton at Maiden Castle in the Barclays Women’s Championship
Lambert’s 14th-minute strike was enough to secure the three points for the Blues and give Rylee Foster a clean sheet on her full debut.
Adam Furness made three changes from the defeat to Charlton – Hannah Blake and Ella Wilson started, with Tatiana Saunders making way for Foster as she bids farewell to Maiden Castle.
Lambert gave Durham the lead in the 14th minute with a run into the box to slot into the near corner.
Fran Stenson kept the Saints in the match with a handful of crucial saves.
Foster had her first real test as Durham goalkeeper in the 42nd minute as the Canadian pushed Vivienne Lia’s shot over the crossbar.
The second half ended as the first concluded, with a handful of chances for either side but no clinical finishes.
Aimee Claypole hit the right post of the Saints goal with a close 59th-minute shot but the follow-ups were cleared.
Michaela Foster’s shot from a tight angle was saved in the 73rd minute by Stenson who constantly denied the Blues a second.
Molly Pike’s 88th-minute close effort was stopped by Rylee Foster – her sole big crucial save of the match.
Southampton kept pushing for an equalizer in stoppage time but Foster and her defence were at hand to keep a clean sheet and claim all three points.
